The Incongruous City

Mrs L sees and hears it on the streets of Manhattan

Wednesday, August 19

Mr. and Mrs. L at the Highline ParkMr. L and I walked the new Highline with our kids a couple times this summer. What a fantastic idea, to turn the old elevated railway into a meandering park, with natural (or at least natural-LOOKING) plants and flowers, and wonderful vantage points, and tunnels and benches, and impromptu concerts on fire escape balconies. A little bit of everything, just like the city itself.

Hey Mrs. L!

Thanks for the info! I had no idea it was even being considered - will definitely have to check it out on my next visit.

Best,
Joan

PS: Is there still going to be a book of memoires? (SP)

I have been dying to get to NYC to see that garden/converted subway track. What a wonderful idea, and that hotel they built over it looks like it would be a real treat. I have so many friends in that city, I really need to get there before the winter.

Why am I not at all surprised that Mr and Mrs L and family would want to visit? And why am I not surprised that a wave of longing to see New York again just hit me?

Oh well - it’s been a long time since misterblue lived there and I visited him - maybe we’ll go back with weeblue next year.

Thanks for the great family stuff on your tumblr site!

I live in chicago where I saw you at borders singing ‘if I were a man’...I gave you a framed poem which you very politely took.It started"Oh that heaven has as many worlds as this, songs as you”. A mother penguin can find its babies voice out of all the others.Likewise we hear a spirit we can relate to in you.
